Hogarth here, The Pilot horse, writing my first
blog… Luckily, I’ve just had some new shoes fitted.
Let me just start by
telling you a little of my history and how our lovely pub, The Pilot, came to
be named.
Since ancient times, Pilot boats have played a
vital role in guiding ships in and out of ports and rivers. The Thames still
relies heavily on these Pilot boats and they continue to have an important
function on this great river. When the Thames tide was too low to bring these
tug boats ashore, horses were used to drag them in from the tow path. These
Pilot horses were stabled here at this historic pub… The Pilot.
Now,
The Pilot is a stop for lots of families, if not as many horses. Its proximity
to the Fuller’s brewery means the beer is always outstanding according to my
friends, Pride and Griffin, the dray horses from the brewery.
Our food is of a quality to match, as I am sure
you will find out for yourselves; I’d especially recommend the Sunday roast. Frequented
by many, from Chiswick’s workforce for after-work drinks and working lunches,
to families having a little get together, the atmosphere is always great. Even
a bit of friendly horsing around happens.
The Garden Room used to be an old store for
lovely hay but now it offers an flexible space to fit any occasion; from
wedding reception to children’s birthday parties to a business meeting room.
The Pilot is currently entering a new, exciting
time, as we are closed for refurbishment until early March. But be sure to take
off your blinkers so you can keep up with our progress on here as well as our
Twitter and Facebook feeds.
(Here’s a little sneak peak!)
Interesting reading! BTW, when do you open again, we live around the corner and have been watching the works with great anticipation!
